Asian Leadership Development Program

cAtAlyst

Offices of Bingham McHale, LLP
April 27-29, 2010

Since 2007, Asian American Alliance has delivered cAtAlyst, a unique professional and leadership development program specifically tailored to meet the needs of Asian Americans working in corporate America.  Local companies have shared that while Asian American professionals tend to be highly skilled in technical areas, that for a variety of reasons, they may lack critical "soft skill" competencies required for success in American companies.  Lacking such skills, these employees often times are relegated to narrow functional roles and, therefore, they fail to realize their full professional potential.  This leads to lower productivity and higher attrition rates, costing employers money.  Hearing this need within the corporate and Asian American community, AAAI developed the cAtAlyst program in 2007.

The cAtAlyst program is intended to serve as a bridge to help accelerate Asian Americans' professional opportunities by focusing on awareness and skill building.  AAAI offers the three-day intensive cAtAlyst workshop twice a year.  The program includes a graduation reception that features a local corporate or civic leader as a keynote speaker offering his or her reflections on leadership.  The April 29, 2010 cAtAlyst graduation reception will feature keynote speaker, Dr. Bobby Fong, President of Butler University.  To register to attend, click here.  Past keynote speakers have included Mayor Greg Ballard, Dr. William Chin, Vice President, Eli Lilly & Co., Dr. David Suzuki, Professor of Ophthamology at the IU School of Medicine, and Stephen Ackard, Director of International Development at the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.  The reception provides the program participants an opportunity to expand their personal network and feel more connected with the Indianapolis community.  cAtAlyst is the only professional development program of its kind in the Midwest.  It is AAAI's vision to make Indianapolis a Center of Excellence that attracts program attendees from neighboring cities such as Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, OH, and Louisville that have Asian American populations that are underserved.    Since 2007, AAAI has served approximately 60 participants through cAtAlyst and created a valuable peer learning network.

Upcoming cAtAlyst session:  April 27-29, 2010
