Garfield Park
June 5, 2010
For the third year, AAAI is partnering with IndyParks and Garfield Park to bring Asia to Indianapolis. More than 500 people attend this annual event at Garfield Park, celebrating the food, culture and art of Asian Americans in Central Indiana. The event features ethnic dance and music, colorful costumes, Asian cuisine, art and cultural displays, Asian-related businesses, and civic groups. Each year, AAAI hosts Asia Fest to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage during the month of May. AAAI strives to expand this festival to include representatives from all Asian communities and from a variety of civic and business organizations who serve the Asian community. Asia Fest is a unique cultural asset for Indianapolis that serves to increase the cultural fluency of the citizens of central Indiana relating to Asian culture and traditions.
Bring your appetite to sample delicious Asian cuisines from local restaurants. Enjoy traditional Asian music and dance presented throughout the day. Stroll through the Garfield Arts Center to see Asian art - both old and new - on display. Children can also take part in Asian-themed activities. Admission is free. Mark your calendar and check back often for updated festival information.
